NCC to Launch Bid for 2.6GHz Frequency Band for 4G Deployment
July 23, 2015

NCC (National Communications Commission) has announced the second phase auction for 4G spectrums in Taiwan, with the base price of the auction set at NT$14.4 billion (US$1=NT$31.26), reported Economic Daily News on July 23. Five telecom operators are expected to bid for a total of 190 MHz bandwidth—separated into six blocks—in 2.5GHz and 2.6GHz. Four of the blocks are suitable to deploy both FDD-LTE (Frequency Division Duplexing-Long Term Evolution) and TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) technologies. NCC plans to issue commercial licenses by end-2015. Currently, Taiwan has over six million 4G subscribers with an average data usage of 10GB to 14GB per month.
